Voice Dubbing

Author: Neeraj Mehra

Voice Dubbing is reproduction of voice by imitating of the manner of character speaking and reproduction of mannerisms, gestures, characteristics and idiosyncrasies of the concerned persons in the form of voice. Voice Dubbing is also done for non lip sync situations as background voice or narrations.

When & Why does a voice dubbing is required? Speaking in terms of live character based dubbings, technically, no doubt a dubbed voice is more strong in terms of voice quality, it also cuts out the ambience or original non-required sounds, secondly through voice dubbing you have an option to improve the strength of the character in a film/programme. Sometimes the diction/accent of the original character does not sounds good, similarly inexperienced performers or characters can be improved upon atleast in the audio part. Animation based programmes which are totally based on dubbings need voices which suits the character and also is likeable to children.

I feel Voice Dubbings and Mimicry needs more than 100% of talent, hard work and timing to perform. In the case of mimicry, your audience should know the subject you are performing upon and you have to be original with the source and sometimes new in content to provide wholesome entertainment. he most concerning matter is also, the mimicry artists like me have been pressing for recognition of their art as most have spent decades perfecting their skills in not just mimicking but also creating lines that have people in splits. There should be attempts in creating new talent and provide training by opening specialized institutes and render special awards in the field of Dubbings and Mimicry.
