If you desire to build your wealth and you own a business, provide a service or want to advance in your position where you are employed you need to become a marketer! What are you marketing? A number of things I might suggest. Here are just a few that come to mind: * The answer to the problem you can solve.
* You - as someone who has the answer to a problem and will provide great customer service.
* You as an employee who has what it takes to help the organization reach its goal and objectives. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit with a cousin who owns his own business in the small town where I grew up in North Dakota. We were talking about the struggles and opportunities involved in owning a business and trying to grow it. We agreed that marketing (especially self-promotion) was not a quality that was seen in a positive light in our farming community; yet, it is a necessary ingredient of success. As everyone knows, you can have the best product or service in the world but if no one else knows about it your bottom-line wont be very impressive. All right, what does this have to do with wealth building? Everything, I might suggest. How are you going to build equity in your business if you dont market it? How are you going to build value in your services if people have no clue what you provide? How do you expect to make money if no one is buying from you? I have had to reframe my language and change from saying Im not good at marketing and have no training in it to Im learning to be a great marketer! Let me give you an example of how that new way of thinking has made a difference. My wife and I own an investment home in Las Vegas that was built by the late comedian Slappy White. Slappy appeared on the TV Show, Sanford and Son, and was also on Dean Martin roasts, etc. Currently, there is a huge inventory of resale homes on the market in Las Vegas. Yet, ours is unique but how do you let people know its available? Marketing! I continued thinking in my new way, Im learning to be a great marketer! Soon, I thought of the column in the paper where the columnist talks about the celebrities seen in Las Vegas and the celebrity events happening in Las Vegas. I composed an e-mail and sent it to him telling him about the home that Slappy White built that was now for sale. I admitted that I was being blatantly self-promoting and I also gave him some background information and a quote from Slappy White; in addition to the website I put up for the house. The next day there it was a brief mention in his column telling everyone who reads the newspaper, online and offline, that Slappy Whites home was for sale, and, he put the website address in as well! In the last two days the website has had over 10,000 page views! Free of charge! (I love that part!) All I did was ask if he might do this. I gave him some good material and I admitted that what I was doing was certainly in my self-interest. I am learning to become a great marketer? Are you? When you do, it will help grow your bottom-line and that will help build your wealth! |
