Crown Crafts is a well-known and respected crib bedding manufacturer, offering merchandise under several different labels, such as Opbaby!, NoJo, Precious Moments, and Disney Baby. The Classic Mickey collection, produced under the Disney Baby label, is made for Disney lovers everywhere. Generally retailing for between $240 and $275, the four-piece crib set is at the higher end of pricing, particularly for bedding featuring licensed characters. However, the lengths to which Crown Crafts has gone to make this premium-quality collection more than justifies the price for those who can afford it.

Classic Mickey comes as a four-piece crib set with a bumper, dust ruffle, fitted sheet, and quilt. The collection is made from a 65/35 poly/cotton blend. The fitted sheet is available for purchase separately. Matching accessories are available, however, there are only five accessories: a musical mobile, diaper stacker, pillow, valance, and lampshade. All of the pieces are machine washable.

The focal point of a crib bedding collection is the quilt. The irregular shapes in the patchwork design make for an eye-catching display. I was pleased to see that the quilt is a genuine patchwork design, which is comprised of each patch being individually sewn together to create the design. Each patch also has a different colored stitching for a subtle touch. It's details like these that make this crib set extraordinary. I examined the workmanship of this collection very closely given its price point and came away very impressed. The stitching in this very complex combination of fabrics appears flawless. Crown Crafts has gone out of its way to create a long-lasting collectors item, not just a crib set.

I was most impressed with finding that Crown Crafts decided to use higher quality woven fabrics instead of a less expensive printed fabrics throughout this crib set. Woven fabrics begin with individual colored threads that are woven together to create a pattern. Woven fabrics, as compared to fabrics that have a pattern simply printed on the surface of a solid-colored fabric, are much more durable, color-fast, and vibrant. While use of these premium quality fabrics are clearly what drove the price of this crib set over $200, I believe it was an excellent choice on the part of Crown Crafts. Because for lovers of Mickey Mouse, the beauty of these designs will make this a crib set that can be handed down from generation to generation - Crown Crafts has used fabrics that will stand the test of time.

The bumper is 8.5" tall with ties on both the top and bottom of the bumper. I feel it is worth mentioning that the ties on the bumper are not traditional ties, with two lengths of fabric coming out from the bumper, there is only one length of fabric in the Classic Mickey pattern, making the bumper somewhat more difficult to secure to the crib rails. Another minor detail is the bumper is one continual piece, which in some cases could be easier than a multiple pieced bumper, however, it makes washing that much harder. The inside of the bumper is populated with Disney characters to amuse your baby. The outside of the bumper is a premium quality woven plaid of green, blue and yellow that is a creative, and I think successful, contrast with the rest of the collection. But take note that the appearance of this crib set from outside the crib is dramatically different from the inside view - this can be a positive or negative feature depending upon your tastes. The dust ruffle, which is most commonly used as a finishing piece, has a 14.5" drop. The premium quality woven gingham fitted sheet matches the back of the quilt with a printed plaid material.

Unfortunately for Canadian consumers purchasing from a United States online retailer, the Classic Mickey bedding collection is manufactured in China. Customers in Canada would be required to pay import duties of as much as 18% of the stated prices.
