Goal Setting and Goal Getting: 4 Simple & Powerful Points

Author: Jeff Herring

Get moving is absolutely the best advice I can give you about goal setting and goal getting.

So many people sit around talking about their goals, planning for their goals, and wishing their goals would come true.

These people are stuck. They are stuck because they are not moving or taking any action toward their desired goal. They are also stuck because they believe that sitting around talking and wishing actually works.

To get moving, look at where you are and where you want to be, and start moving in that direction.

Opportunity comes in the form of pursuing a goal.

Opportunities do not typically come to those sitting around waiting for opportunities to come to them.

Opportunity shows up for those that are already actively involved in the pursuit of their goals.

Having a goal means you have an opportunity to do two things:

1. Achieve a goal, and

2. Have other opportunities show up in your life.

Achieving your goal is what goal setting is all about.

This why I title my articles on goals with "Goal Setting and Goal Getting." We can get so caught up in the setting of goals that we forget the whole purpose is to get our goals.

Once you have set a goal, there are two possible results: you either achieve your goal of have excuses why you did not.

Make sure you get your goals by making sure you do all the necessary things to get their.

No excuses.

Long term results come to those who set and achieve goals.

There is this curious feature of human nature that I call "arrival syndrome." Arrival syndrome is when we work hard to achieve a goal, get it, and then stop doing all the things that got us there is the first place.

Instead, achieve a goal, keep it going, and then use the momentum to move on to the next goal, and the next and the next.

In this way, you have set it up to have a life time of moving in the directions you desire.
