Injured During Spring Training

Author: Peter Portero

Many players are injured throughout the baseball season. Torn ankles, broken kneecaps, torn ligaments, and hand injuries are only a few out of many injuries players have endured throughout the season. But when players are injured during spring training, this can affect the rest of the season.

The player can hopefully recover from their injury before the season officially starts. But most likely, as a result of an operation and physical therapy, the player will not be able to play until mid-season and if there are already many good players on a team, they might not get the amount of time to actually the play the game that they wanted. It is not fun to sit on a bench while others are having a good time playing ball. Being injured during spring training could have been a result of another injury. Players are often injured in the same areas more than once because bones and ligaments never heal completely. It is important for a player to take care of themselves and not push their bodies too hard during the season and during the off season.

Many fans are disappointed when their favorite player is out for the season. This can really set a team back and cause them to lose more games than they would have if the player had been able to play. When a player is injured during spring training, many teams find a replacement quickly so that the fans are not too disappointed and they will still attend the games. Injured players quietly fall into the shadow of the bench and remain there until the end of the season or until their injuries have healed. Some players have retired because the injury was too large or did not heal correctly. It is a shame when a good player can no longer play the game.
